What is Chemical Engineering?

What is Chemical Engineering? This a branch of engineering that aims to create useful substances that can be used for the different improvements in the agricultural and even biological field. It also involves the design and conception of different chemical processes for processing and manufacturing chemicals for different industries. Chemical engineers also command their knowledge in the field of mathematics, physics and chemistry to create substances that can be used for different needs.

What is Chemical EngineeringChemical Engineers may work in agriculture for culturing plants and animals using useful substances or he may work along side pharmacists and create drugs and medicinal substances for the betterment of humanity. This includes the design and conception of the substances through chemical processes, to conducting experiments and testing chemicals in the laboratory for safety. Chemical Engineers also make sure that the substances that they create are safe for the individual using it or for the environment and everyone living in it.

To gain a basic knowledge of what is Chemical Engineering, here are some of the key concepts that chemical engineers study: the Process Design, Plant Design, and Transport Phenomena.

WHAT IS CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND WHAT ARE ITS KEY CONCEPTS?

The Process design refers to the ability of the chemical engineer to design different chemical processes required to create a substance and often involves two steps, the Unit Operation and the Unit Process. Unit operations are those chemical processes that are required to purify and create reactants, recycle unspent reactants, and the control of energy in reactors.

A unit process on the other hand refers to the chemical equivalent of unit operations that involve the conversion and completion of a material through biochemical, thermochemical, and other chemical processes. This mainly defines what is Chemical Engineering and the work that chemical engineers do.

Plant Design refers to the design and creation of plants where substances using chemical processes will be created and thus requires the exact design that will not disturb and affect the chemical processes by any means. A Plant’s design will be limited by a number of factor’s including the client’s needs, funding, safety standards and government regulations.

The transport phenomenon happens when chemical species or substances are transferred and mainly concerns momentum and energy transfers. It focuses on the concepts of fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and describes the actions in their microscopic, macroscopic and molecular levels.

WHAT IS CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND WHAT IS ITS DIFFERENCE TO CHEMISTS?

But chemical engineering will not be left out in a high-tech society where most of their colleagues are using technology to make the steps needed to complete their work easier. Chemical engineers will also use computer systems that will control automated systems in plants that will regulate and monitor the different chemical processes done inside it.Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineers differ from chemists who are isolated in their laboratories in synthesizing materials and substances in the way they create it. Chemical engineers will use their extensive knowledge in chemistry and engineering to create usable substances from raw materials that often include medicine, petrochemicals, and plastics, through research and synthesis needing the extensive use of computers.

You may get your Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering to better grasp the concept of What is Chemical Engineering if it is the niche you have in the broad industry of Engineering.
